Odisha reported three deaths caused by sunstroke as the state continues to battle extreme heat.
Deputy Special Relief Commissioner Padmanabh Behera confirmed the fatalities, with one case each in Balangir, Sundargarh and Subarnapur districts.
Officials said the victims collapsed under severe heat conditions while engaged in routine outdoor activities. The incidents highlight the growing health risks posed by the ongoing heatwave across the state.
Authorities urged residents to avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours and to stay hydrated. Medical teams in affected districts are monitoring vulnerable groups, including the elderly and outdoor workers.
The state government has directed district administrations to strengthen awareness campaigns and ensure immediate medical support for suspected sunstroke cases. Hospitals have been asked to keep emergency facilities ready to handle heat‑related illnesses.
Meteorologists noted that temperatures remain above normal in several regions, with humidity adding to the discomfort. The deaths underscore the urgent need for precautionary measures as Odisha braces for more hot days.
