The Odisha Vigilance Department has recovered another ₹4 lakh in cash from the residence of Kendrapara Drainage Division Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Anupama Sahoo, taking the total cash seized from her possession and premises to ₹7.15 lakh.
The fresh recovery was made during an ongoing search at Sahoo’s residential premises in Kendrapara following her interception by Vigilance officials on Saturday.
Officials are examining the source of the cash, along with Sahoo’s assets, financial records and other documents as part of the ongoing investigation.
AEE intercepted with ₹3.15 lakh cash
Sahoo was intercepted by a Vigilance team at Marshaghai Crossing on NH-53-A while travelling from her office to her residence at Nayanvihar in her official vehicle, bearing registration number OD-29-S-6644.
According to the Vigilance Department, the action followed reliable information about the alleged collection of bribes from contractors for clearing pending bills at her office.
The officials recovered ₹3.15 lakh in cash from her possession. The department suspects the money to be illicitly acquired, while Sahoo allegedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding its source.
The cash and the official vehicle were subsequently seized.
Searches continue at linked locations
Following the interception, Vigilance officials began searches at locations linked to Sahoo. During the search of her residence, another ₹4 lakh in cash was recovered.
The total cash seizure now stands at ₹7.15 lakh.
The searches and verification process were continuing at the time of reporting. Officials are also examining financial records and assets to determine the source of the seized money.
A detailed report is expected after the investigation progresses.
