In a fresh development in the Odisha Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment exam fraud case, two key accused—Shankar Prusty and Muna Mohanty—are slated to be taken on remand by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Meanwhile, four other accused individuals, who had been on a three-day remand, have been returned to Jharpada Jail in Bhubaneswar after the CBI chose not to seek an extension.

The update emerged following the presentation of the four accused in Bhubaneswar’s Special CBI Court on November 29, 2025. CBI officials informed the court that Shankar Prusty is a habitual offender with multiple prior cases of job-related fraud registered against him. This information was presented before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) cum Special Court, highlighting Shankar’s history of orchestrating similar scams.
The CBI is expected to soon file an application in the Special Court to secure remand for Shankar and Muna, aiming to delve deeper into their roles in the scandal.
The Odisha Police SI recruitment exam came under scrutiny due to widespread allegations of irregularities and corruption. Initially, the investigation was handed over to the Crime Branch amid suspicions of involvement by an interstate organised criminal gang. Recognising the gravity of the situation and the need for exemplary action against the perpetrators, the Chief Minister of Odisha transferred the probe to the CBI.
Investigations have revealed that the roots of the corruption may extend to Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and other states, prompting a comprehensive interstate inquiry. To date, 120 individuals have been arrested in connection with the fraud. Of these, 114 have been granted bail by the Special Vigilance Court.
