An Indian Army Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) tragically lost his life during a fierce encounter with terrorists in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir along the Line of Control (LoC).
The incident took place late Friday night when troops detected suspicious movements near a stream in the forested area of Keri Bhattal.
The terrorists, heavily armed, attempted to infiltrate Indian territory but were intercepted by vigilant personnel. This led to an intense exchange of fire lasting several hours. Among the gallant soldiers leading the counter-operations was Sub Kuldeep Chand from the 9 Punjab Regiment, who sustained critical injuries and succumbed later.
The Indian Army’s White Knight Corps honored the fallen soldier, stating, “He laid down his life gallantly leading the operation in the Keri-Battal area of Sunderbani.” The area has been sealed off, with reinforcements deployed for thorough search operations.
This incident coincided with efforts to ease tensions between Indian and Pakistani forces, highlighted by a recent flag meeting in Poonch. Despite reaffirmation of the ceasefire agreement, sporadic violations and cross-border terror activities continue to test peace efforts.
The nation mourns the loss of a true hero while emphasizing the need for vigilance and strong measures against escalating infiltrations along the LoC.
