In a strong message to Maoists operating in Odisha, Border Security Force (BSF) Inspector General (IG) Shiv Adhar Srivastava has warned that failure to surrender will lead to encounters.

Speaking at a press conference in Bhubaneswar on Saturday, Srivastava outlined an ambitious target to make the state completely Naxal-free by March 2026.

The BSF has initiated targeted operations against Naxalites in Odisha, emphasising a zero-tolerance approach. “Surrender or face encounters,” Srivastava stated bluntly, urging Maoists to lay down arms and reintegrate into society. He highlighted the government’s rehabilitation programs designed to bring misguided youth back into the mainstream, offering them opportunities for a normal life.

Reflecting on recent successes, Srivastava noted that following the encounter of top Maoist leader Hidma, security forces have intensified efforts against high-ranking Naxal commanders. This year alone, operations in Odisha have resulted in the neutralisation of 19 Naxalites, the arrest of 8 others, and the surrender of 6 more. “This has dealt a significant blow to the Naxal movement,” he said, adding that intelligence reports indicate many more are eager to surrender.

The BSF’s strategy involves meticulously planned actions, leveraging advanced technology and robust intelligence gathering. Joint operations are being conducted in collaboration with the Odisha Police, Special Operations Group (SOG), District Voluntary Force (DVF), and other central police forces. Special focus is placed on strategic deployments and redeployments to cover vulnerable areas effectively.

Srivastava expressed full confidence in achieving the 2026 goal, stating that these coordinated efforts will not only enhance security but also pave the way for development in affected regions. “Through rehabilitation and societal reintegration for those who surrender, we aim to open new doors for peace and progress in Odisha,” he assured.
