In a significant move honouring a revered spiritual figure, the Odisha government has formally named the new Government Medical College and Hospital in Phulbani after Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati.
The Health & Family Welfare Department issued an official notification on 28 July 2026 stating that, after careful consideration, the institution will now be known as the “Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati Government Medical College and Hospital, Phulbani.”
The decision follows yesterday’s announcement by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. Alongside the renaming, the Chief Minister sanctioned ₹13 crore from the Chief Minister’s Special Assistance (CMSA) fund for the comprehensive development and heritage protection of Swami Laxmanananda’s ashram at Jalespatta in Kandhamal district.
The renaming marks a formal recognition of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati’s legacy in the region, while the financial allocation aims to preserve and develop the historic ashram associated with him.
The move has been widely noted as both a symbolic tribute and a practical step toward strengthening healthcare infrastructure and cultural heritage in Kandhamal.
