The Odisha government has launched a massive crackdown on black marketing and illegal hoarding of LPG cylinders across the state.
While LPG gas supply remains normal everywhere, reports of unscrupulous elements hoarding cylinders reached the authorities, prompting the Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Department to swing into swift and decisive action.
Supply department teams have been formed in all 30 districts and are conducting intensive inspections under the direct supervision of respective District Collectors. These teams submit daily reports to senior officials, ensuring round-the-clock monitoring and strict enforcement.
Till today, officials have inspected 1,915 locations statewide. Of these, 702 were LPG gas agencies, and 1,213 were other suspected sites. As a result, 3,435 LPG cylinders have been seized.
In addition, 323 cases have been registered under the Essential Commodities Act, 23 FIRs have been lodged, and five persons have been arrested for black marketing and illegal storage of cylinders.
The government has made it clear that no leniency will be shown to those indulging in black marketing of essential commodities.
Authorities have appealed to the public to report any suspected hoarding or black marketing immediately to the nearest supply department office or through the toll-free helpline.
