Odisha Water Resources Department Engineer‑in‑Chief Dillip Kumar Rout has cautioned that while the Mahanadi and Brahmani rivers pose no flood threat, special vigilance is required for the Salandi river, where water levels may rise due to the ongoing low‑pressure system.
Rout explained that the Baitarani river will see increased water flow but is unlikely to trigger floods. He added that the Budhabalanga river is witnessing rising levels that could touch warning marks, necessitating close monitoring.
The EIC reiterated that the Mahanadi system’s flood control mechanisms remain effective, ensuring no immediate danger. However, he urged district authorities and communities near vulnerable rivers to stay alert and prepared for precautionary measures.
