The Deep Depression originating over the North Coastal Andhra Pradesh region crossed the coast near the southwest of Kalingapatnam between 11 PM on September 23 and 1 AM on September 24.
During landfall, the system registered maximum sustained wind speeds of 55–65 km/h, with gusty winds reaching up to 75 km/h.
Following the landfall, the system moved west-northwestward. As of 8:30 AM on September 24, 2026, it lay centred over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining South Odisha, located approximately 70 km west-northwest of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 80 km south-southeast of Rayagada (Odisha), and 90 km east-southeast of Koraput (Odisha).
Briefing the press, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Shri Suresh Pujari confirmed that the system has been moving inland at a speed of 7 km/h and is expected to gradually weaken into a Depression by the evening of September 24 as it continues its north-northwestward trajectory over the next 24 hours.
State-Wide Impact & Regional Reports
Despite heavy rainfall across multiple blocks, state officials reported no widespread or major damage. District administrations, alongside ODRAF and local emergency units, remain on high alert.

Koraput: Experienced light-to-medium rainfall, with Similiguda block recording over 100 mm of rain (193.9 mm max). Overall conditions remain normal with zero casualties reported.

Malkangiri: Water overflowing national highways prompted traffic diversions near Kangurakonda, MV-90, and Kanyashram bridges in coordination with Chhattisgarh Police. Chitrakonda recorded 168.8 mm of rain.

Nabarangpur: Waterlogging over a bridge in Tentulikhunti block led to alternate traffic routing. Minor damage to two houses from uprooted trees was addressed, and affected families were safely evacuated.

Gajapati & Rayagada: Continuous night patrolling along the Vansadhara river basin is being carried out by ODRAF teams to monitor rising water levels. Paralakhemundi recorded 121.4 mm of rainfall.

Ganjam & Kalahandi: Administration is closely tracking water levels in both Vansadhara and Rushikulya rivers, managing barrage gates and clearing uprooted trees swiftly.
Current Alerts & Road Ahead
Heavy rainfall was recorded across several locations, including Tangi in Khordha (142.0 mm), Badamba in Cuttack (134.0 mm), and G. Udayagiri in Kandhamal (125.4 mm).
While the core system is losing intensity, the Meteorological Department has issued a Red Warning for Nabarangpur district for September 24, along with an Orange Warning for Koraput, Malkangiri, Baragada, Nuapada, Balangir, and Kalahandi.
The Odisha State Government reassures the public that field-level teams, traffic control protocols, and river level monitoring mechanisms are operating at full capacity to respond to any localised incidents and maintain public safety.
