Odisha Health Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling today laid the foundation stone for a 100‑bed government Ayurvedic hospital at Nageswar Tangi, BJB Nagar, marking a major step in strengthening the state’s AYUSH healthcare infrastructure.

Organised by the Directorate of AYUSH, the ceremony highlighted the government’s commitment to modernising Ayurvedic services while preserving traditional practices. The upcoming hospital will integrate modern diagnostic facilities, operation theatres, patient wards, day care units, and cabins with Ayurvedic treatment.

Officials said the project will be completed within 15 months, offering patients across Odisha access to affordable, quality Ayurvedic care under one roof. The hospital will also ensure uninterrupted supply of medicines, improved patient management systems, and enhanced manpower availability.

The Minister noted that initiatives such as Panchakarma therapy, anorectal surgery, yoga classes, and diagnostic services are already being expanded across government Ayurvedic centres. Discussions are underway with the National Health Authority (NHA) to include Ayurvedic treatment under Ayushman Bharat and Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana.

The government has also increased stipends for AYUSH students and raised salaries for doctors at PHCs and CHCs to Rs 90,000, reflecting its focus on strengthening traditional healthcare.
