In a high-level review meeting at Lokaseva Bhawan on Monday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi issued firm directions to permanently solve the growing traffic woes of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack while transforming the twin cities into cleaner, greener, and more organised urban centres.
The Chief Minister conducted a detailed review of the Traffic Decongestion Plan, stressing that the historic city of Cuttack and the capital Bhubaneswar must be linked by smooth, aesthetically pleasing, and well-maintained corridors. “Our twin cities deserve world-class connectivity and beauty. Every major road and junction in poor condition must be repaired without delay,” Majhi directed officials.
A key highlight of the meeting was the discussion on constructing an alternative 8-lane highway to ensure uninterrupted travel for Puri-bound pilgrims and tourists. The Chief Minister emphasised that devotees and visitors should be able to move freely between Kataka, Bhubaneswar, and Puri without facing congestion.
Majhi also ordered the strict implementation of smart traffic management measures, including advanced signal systems, expanded CCTV coverage, construction of flyovers and overbridges at critical junctions, and zero tolerance for illegal parking. He called upon the Twin City Police Commissionerate, Housing & Urban Development Department, Works Department, and local administrations to work in complete synergy for the “Nabakalebara” (rejuvenation) of the twin cities and to guarantee safe, seamless mobility for citizens.
Among those present at the meeting were Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Development Commissioner D.K. Singh, ACS to the Chief Minister Saswata Mishra, Principal Secretary, Works Department, Sanjay Kumar Singh, Twin City Police Commissioner S. Dev Datta Singh, and other senior officials.
With clear timelines and strict accountability now in place, the twin cities appear set for a major transformation — from daily traffic chaos to smoother journeys and enhanced urban charm.
