Western Odisha continues to reel under a severe heatwave, with Jharsuguda recording a scorching 46°C on Wednesday.
The relentless summer conditions have disrupted daily life across the region, leaving residents struggling with extreme heat and humidity.
On Thursday morning, Jharsuguda registered 41.8°C by 11:30 AM, while Sambalpur recorded 41.2°C and Hirakud touched 40.6°C. The previous day saw Jharsuguda peak at 46°C, making it the hottest city in the state. Sambalpur followed closely with 45.3°C, while Hirakud reported 45°C.
Other districts also faced severe heat, with temperatures soaring to 43.9°C in Sonepur, 43.8°C in Bargarh and Talcher, 43.5°C in Titilagarh, and 43.3°C in Balangir. Sundargarh recorded 42.8°C, Angul 42.1°C, Nayagarh 42°C, Nuapada 41.5°C, Rourkela 41.3°C, Keonjhar and Baripada 40.7°C, Kendrapara 40.2°C, and Bhadrak 40°C.
The heatwave has left western Odisha burning, while coastal regions face high humidity levels that intensify discomfort. Residents report unbearable conditions as the combination of heat and humidity disrupts normal routines.
Meteorological experts warn that the heatwave is likely to persist, urging people to take precautions against heat-related illnesses. The situation underscores the growing impact of extreme weather events across Odisha.
