In a proactive move to safeguard consumers amid the impending Cyclone Montha, the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department has launched extensive raids across various districts in Odisha.

These operations aim to prevent black marketing and maintain an uninterrupted supply chain for essential commodities.

With the cyclone’s potential impact expected from today until October 30, authorities are intensifying inspections to ensure that no traders engage in hoarding or unnecessary stockpiling of vital goods. The focus is on guaranteeing abundant availability of key items such as flattened rice (chuda), jaggery (gud), sugar, pulses (dali), cooking oil, potatoes, and onions. This initiative is designed to eliminate any doubts among consumers about shortages in the market.

Department officials have confirmed that all necessary steps have been taken to make these essentials readily available at fair prices. Yesterday, district collectors across the state were briefed to pay special attention to this issue, emphasising strict enforcement.

Particularly in districts forecasted to receive heavy rainfall due to the cyclone, adequate stocks of essential commodities have been secured. The supply chain remains seamless, ensuring that consumers can access these items without disruption or inflated costs.
