Tensions soared in Koraput on Sunday following the mysterious death of an Odia migrant worker in Anakapalle, Andhra Pradesh.
The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Premraj Bishoi.
Suspicion and anger mounted among locals as Premraj’s body arrived at his native village in an ambulance, prompting grieving villagers to detain the vehicle and demand answers regarding the sudden tragedy.
According to reports, Premraj had moved to Anakapalle to work as a civil construction labourer. He shared rented accommodation with Naveen Mali from Ghatbagra village and another young worker from Jharkhand. On Saturday night around 9:15 PM, shortly after finishing dinner, Premraj reportedly suffered a sudden and severe episode of diarrhoea and vomiting. However, it remains unconfirmed whether he received proper or timely medical care before he breathed his last. His body was subsequently dispatched to his native village in an ambulance.
The unexpected demise of Premraj has dealt a devastating blow to his family. As the primary breadwinner, Premraj was the sole support for his elder brother, Surendra Bishoi, who is living with a disability. With Premraj gone, serious concerns have surfaced regarding the survival, care, and future well-being of the helpless family.
Agitated by the lack of clarity surrounding the circumstances of his death, the local villagers have expressed deep resentment. They have urged authorities to initiate an impartial investigation to establish the exact cause of death and demanded immediate financial compensation and government support to aid the suffering family.
