Eminent Odia engineer and past President of the Institution of Engineers (India), Er. Ashok Basa, has been appointed as the first-ever Chair of the Internal Audit Committee of the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO).
The appointment, announced by WFEO with effect from September 28, 2026, will run through the completion of the Committee’s mandate at the end of 2027. This newly constituted body marks a crucial step for the global federation in institutional management.
Dr Moez Chakchouk, Executive Director of WFEO, lauded Basa’s stellar professional standing, noting that the appointment reflects the Federation’s deep confidence in his leadership to champion transparency, accountability, and sound governance.
A Legacy of Global Leadership
Er. Basa is no stranger to breaking barriers on the international stage. In December 2025, he made history as the first Indian to serve as the Internal Auditor of WFEO since its inception. His previous leadership credentials include serving as WFEO Executive Vice President (2022–2025)—making him only the second Indian to hold the post—and chairing the Strategic Planning Committee from 2022 to 2025.

As Chair of the Internal Audit Committee, Er. Basa will spearhead crucial governance initiatives, including:
