The Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) Association has decided to postpone its mass leave protest, originally planned for July 1, following a high-level late-night meeting with Chief Minister Mohan Majhi.
The protest was in response to the brutal assault on BMC Additional Commissioner Ratnakar Sahoo inside his office during a public hearing.
CM Majhi, joined by top officials including the Chief Secretary, DGP, Commissioner of Police, and Advocate General, assured the association of swift and strict legal action against all perpetrators. So far, three individuals have been arrested: Jeevan Rout, Rashmi Mahapatra, and Debashis Pradhan, all allegedly linked to the BJP Yuva Morcha.
According to police, the trio dragged Sahoo from his chamber and assaulted him, with reports suggesting an attempt to kidnap him. A case has been registered under multiple serious sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
“In reverence to the CM’s appeal, the mass leave is not called off, but postponed,” said the OAS Association in a statement. “We urge all district associations to pass a resolution condemning the incident.”
The Association emphasized that all allied services including IAS, OFS, and OSS cadres have extended solidarity, and reiterated their commitment to stand by all officers under threat or assault.
Meanwhile, the political ramifications are unfolding, with growing concerns over rising attacks on government officials and the alleged involvement of ruling party youth wing members. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation.
