The auspicious timing for Nuakhai, the grand agrarian festival of western Odisha, has been officially announced for Balangir district.
The Patna Maharaja’s Shailashree Palace declared that the festival will be observed on September 15, with the sacred ritual of offering the new harvest to deities scheduled between 9:36 am and 10:10 am, considered the Amrut Bela.
Rajpurohit Santosh Kumar Dash confirmed that during this period, devotees across western Odisha will offer the season’s first grains to their household and community deities. With the announcement of the lagna dharya (auspicious timing), festive excitement has already begun to spread across the region.
Nuakhai, celebrated as a symbol of agrarian prosperity and cultural unity, brings together families and communities to share the first harvest meal. The festival is marked by rituals, traditional food, and social gatherings, reinforcing its importance as one of Odisha’s most cherished cultural events.
