A notorious criminal, Debashis Behera—infamously known by his alias ‘Hund’—was injured during a police encounter in the Mangalpur area of Dhenkanal on Wednesday.
According to sources, the Dhenkanal Sadar Police intercepted him while he was allegedly en route to commit a planned murder.
Behera sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during the confrontation. Police officials confirmed that the chase and subsequent shooting were part of a broader operation to prevent further criminal activity in the region.
Behera has long been on the radar of law enforcement. With over 20 serious cases against him—including charges of murder, theft, and dacoity—he has gained notoriety as the leader of the ‘King of Forest Gang’, a group linked to a string of violent crimes and illegal activities across the district.
Authorities say his gang’s actions have created a climate of fear among residents, and operations are ongoing to dismantle the group’s network and restore normalcy.
