Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Commissioner Kirandeep Kaur Sahota has directed officials and staff not to bring flower bouquets, gifts, sweets, or plastic items while visiting her office on the New Year.
In an office order, Sahota stressed the need to promote simplicity, discipline, and environmental responsibility. She noted that it had become a practice for officers and staff to convey greetings with flowers, gifts, and sweets during New Year visits. Therefore, she instructed everyone to strictly comply with the new directive.
“In order to promote simplicity, discipline and environmental responsibility, and our strong commitment to make CMC plastic-free, it is hereby ordered that no Officer/Staff shall bring or present any item such as Flower Bouquet, Gifts, Sweets, or any item made of Plastic during New Year greetings,” the order stated.
Moreover, Sahota’s directive aligns with CMC’s broader mission to reduce plastic use and encourage eco-friendly practices. By discouraging traditional gift exchanges, the Commissioner aims to set an example of sustainable celebration within the civic body.
Kirandeep Kaur Sahota assumed charge as Commissioner of CMC in July 2025. Since then, she has focused on strengthening discipline and introducing measures that reflect environmental responsibility.
This initiative highlights CMC’s commitment to creating a plastic-free environment while encouraging officials to embrace simplicity in official traditions.
