A longstanding neighbourhood dispute in Bidanasi Nuasahi, Cuttack, escalated into violence on Sunday morning when Gobinda Malik attacked his neighbour Sukadev Dalei and Sukadev’s wife, Sujata Bhatt, with a knife.
Both victims sustained serious stab wounds and are currently in critical condition at SCB Medical College and Hospital, where they are undergoing emergency surgery.
Police arrived at the scene promptly and detained Gobinda Malik. Initial reports suggest the attack was motivated by prior enmity between the families. Authorities are investigating all possible angles. The incident has caused unrest in the locality, as residents expressed shock that the dispute turned violent for the first time.
Police continue to investigate while assuring strict action against the accused.
