Nayapalli Police in Bhubaneswar arrested two men from West Bengal on Sunday for brandishing a 32-inch iron sword in public, terrorizing commuters, and attempting extortion near ID Market.
According to police, a patrolling team near Ekamra Park was alerted by a passerby around 9 AM regarding two Hindi-speaking youths creating panic with a sword on a motorcycle. Officers rushed to the scene near ID Market and intercepted the suspects following a brief chase after they attempted to flee.
The prime accused was identified as Dilip Singh (23), from whose waist officers recovered a 32-inch curved iron sword. The second accused was identified as Bijaya Singh (23). Both individuals hail from Purulia district, West Bengal, and are currently residing near the Jagatpur Over Bridge in Kataka.
During interrogation, the duo confessed to procuring the weapon from the Unit-1 area with intent to extort and rob people.
Police seized the sword and motorcycle, produced both accused in court with a 15-day remand prayer, and initiated further investigation.
