The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has taken a significant step to strengthen India’s medical oxygen infrastructure by releasing the National Guidelines on Medical Oxygen Management at a workshop held at AIIMS, New Delhi.
The event also marked the launch of a National Capacity Building Programme on Oxygen Management, spearheaded by the Disaster Management Cell in collaboration with AIIMS, Delhi.
Union Health Secretary Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava emphasized the importance of maintaining and utilizing medical oxygen infrastructure effectively to meet surge demands during emergencies. Prof. M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS, reiterated the need for training healthcare professionals to ensure proper handling and utilization of oxygen to improve clinical outcomes and reduce wastage.
The program aims to train 200 master trainers nationwide, who will pass on their expertise to hospital administrators and medical officers, fostering uniform practices in oxygen management across healthcare facilities. The guidelines provide a framework focusing on patient safety, emergency preparedness, and efficient procurement, storage, and administration of medical oxygen.
