Nabarangpur district administration announced a holiday for all educational institutions starting April 20 as temperatures touched 44°C.
District Collector issued an official order directing Anganwadi Centres, schools, colleges, and technical institutions to remain closed until further instructions. The decision came after the district recorded extreme heatwave conditions that posed risks to students and staff.
Authorities confirmed that examinations already scheduled during this period will continue. Institutions may shift exam timings to morning hours to avoid peak heat. The Collector instructed heads of institutions to ensure adequate drinking water facilities and provide heatstroke prevention arrangements for students appearing in exams.
The administration emphasised strict compliance with the directive. Schools and colleges must maintain shaded areas and hydration points. The move aims to safeguard children and staff from heat-related illnesses.
Western Odisha districts, including Nabarangpur, continue to experience soaring temperatures above 40°C. Similar closures have been announced in other districts to protect students from extreme weather.
