A couple was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Saan Bhimaguda village under Umarkote police jurisdiction in Nabarangpur district.
The husband, Sutam Bhatra (32), was discovered hanging from a tamarind tree near their residence, while his wife, Phulamani Bhatra (27), was found hanging inside the house with a scarf tied to an iron pipe. Local police reached the spot after receiving a written complaint from family members and recovered both bodies for post-mortem at the Umarkote sub-divisional hospital.
Initial information suggests that the couple had dinner and retired to bed the previous night. The tragic discovery was made early the next morning. The couple, married for over a decade according to societal traditions, had no children.
Police have registered an unnatural death case and started an inquiry led by Sub-Inspector Akshay Mishra. The community remains in shock, and authorities are probing the circumstances leading to this heartbreaking event.
