BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut has criticised the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, describing the movement’s leadership as “anti-national forces” and alleging that a conspiracy was underway to destabilise India.
Ranaut made the remarks on Saturday while speaking to reporters after arriving in Lucknow. She was travelling to Ayodhya, where she said she planned to visit the Ram temple and offer prayers to Ram Lalla.
‘People Are Exposing Them’
Reacting to the developments in Delhi, Ranaut said people were increasingly questioning those involved in the protests.
“Look at how people are now exposing these anti-national forces. Leave the police aside, now ordinary people too will catch them and demand answers from them because people have started recognising them,” she said.
Ranaut alleged that efforts were being made to destabilise the country through the protests. Her comments came amid a major security operation in Delhi ahead of the CJP’s planned demonstration at Jantar Mantar.
She also said authorities should ensure that ordinary citizens do not face inconvenience during such developments.
CJP Protest Over CEC Gyanesh Kumar
The CJP had called for a major protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10, demanding the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
The group has alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, including concerns over wrongful deletion of voters and a lack of transparency in the process.
These remain political allegations and have not been established as facts.
Thousands Detained Across Delhi
Delhi witnessed heightened security on Saturday as authorities sought to prevent protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar.
According to the report, thousands of people were detained at different locations across the national capital. Several political leaders were also detained amid the crackdown.
The CJP’s leadership was among those detained before the planned demonstration.
The Delhi Police had cited security and law-and-order concerns surrounding the proposed protest and implemented extensive barricading and traffic restrictions across the city.
Security Tightened Ahead of Fresh Protest Call
The CJP renewed its call for demonstrations even as security arrangements remained in place across central Delhi.
The Delhi Police planned to keep Jantar Mantar closed and impose restrictions in several parts of the capital, with traffic diversions and barricades deployed at multiple locations.
The developments have intensified the political confrontation surrounding the CJP’s campaign against Gyanesh Kumar and the wider debate over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a plea related to restrictions imposed during the protests and allegations concerning the authorities’ handling of the situation.
