Fuel prices in Bhubaneswar surged once again on Monday, with diesel crossing the ₹100-per-litre mark for the first time in the city after the latest revision in rates.

Diesel is now being sold at ₹100.81 per litre, while petrol prices climbed to ₹109.16 per litre.

The latest increase comes after diesel prices were raised by ₹2.71 per litre and petrol by ₹2.61 per litre.

Fourth Fuel Price Hike in Just 10 Days

This is the fourth fuel price hike recorded in the past 10 days, increasing concerns among commuters, transport operators, and businesses across Odisha.

Before the latest revision:

  • Petrol was priced at ₹106.33 per litre
  • Diesel cost ₹97.92 per litre

Meanwhile, speed petrol prices in Bhubaneswar also witnessed a sharp jump and are currently retailing at ₹118.27 per litre.

Fuel Prices Rise Across Major Indian Cities

The fresh hike has affected several metro cities across India.

Latest Petrol and Diesel Prices:

  • New Delhi – Petrol ₹102.12 | Diesel ₹95.20
  • Kolkata – Petrol ₹113.51 | Diesel ₹99.82
  • Mumbai – Petrol ₹111.21 | Diesel ₹97.83
  • Chennai – Petrol ₹107.77 | Diesel ₹99.55

Why Are Fuel Prices Increasing?

Experts believe the recent surge in petrol and diesel prices is linked to tensions and instability in the Middle East, which have pushed global crude oil prices higher.

The continued rise in fuel costs is expected to impact:

  • Transportation expenses
  • Prices of essential goods
  • Daily commuting costs
  • Business operating expenses

Odisha Government Pushes for Reduced Fuel Usage

Earlier, the Government of Odisha directed government offices to minimise petrol and diesel consumption and gradually shift towards electric vehicles (EVs) as part of fuel-saving measures.

With global uncertainty continuing, many consumers fear that fuel prices could rise further in the coming days, adding more pressure on household budgets.
