Mumbai Indians added yet another trophy to their cabinet after Harmanpreet Kaur’s MI-W defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Women’s Premier League season 3 final on Saturday (March 15) to lift their second WPL title.
This was Mumbai Indians women’s team’s second title in only their second attempt in the WPL final, adding to their crown from 2023 and in the process showcasing the sucess of the franchise owned by Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd.
The MI franchise founded in 2008 with the formation of the Mumbai Indians team in the Indian Premier League have gone on to expand their presence across franchise T20 cricket leagues in the world. While they bought teams in South Africa’s T20 league and UAE’s T20 league, MI also invested in The Hundred.
Although they struggled in the first few seasons of the IPL, Mumbai Indians have since become serial winners across competitions. They landed their first title in the form of the now defunct Champions League T20, and then went on a record-breaking run in IPL.
Since 2011, Mumbai Indians men’s team added seven titles, including five IPL titles and two CLT20 trophies. Rohit Sharma captained MI to their first title in IPL in 2013, and added four more big prizes to MI’s trophy cabinet until 2020.
