Prateek Yadav, the younger son of late Mulayam Singh Yadav, passed away at the age of 38 in Lucknow on Wednesday morning. His sudden death has shocked political leaders, supporters and people across Uttar Pradesh.
According to hospital officials, Prateek Yadav was taken to a civil hospital in Lucknow after his health condition became critical early in the morning. Doctors tried to revive him, but he was declared dead at around 5:55 am. Officials said the exact cause of death will be known after the postmortem examination.
The news spread rapidly across social media, with condolences pouring in from political leaders and supporters. Prateek was the half-brother of Akhilesh Yadav and husband of Aparna Yadav. Despite belonging to one of India’s most influential political families, he mostly stayed away from active politics and focused on business ventures.
Prateek Yadav was known for his interest in fitness and entrepreneurship. He owned a fitness centre in Lucknow and was also involved in real estate-related work. Apart from business, he actively supported animal welfare activities and managed an initiative dedicated to the rescue and care of stray dogs.
Born to Mulayam Singh Yadav and Sadhna Gupta, Prateek studied in the United Kingdom before returning to India. Friends and associates often described him as private and soft-spoken. He married Aparna Yadav in 2011, and the couple has a daughter.
Earlier this year, Prateek Yadav had made headlines after reports of differences in his marriage surfaced online. Social media posts allegedly shared by him mentioned personal disputes and divorce plans, though the matter was never discussed publicly in detail afterward.
Leaders and workers of the Samajwadi Party expressed grief over the loss and remembered Prateek as someone who maintained close ties with family and friends despite avoiding the political spotlight.
More details regarding the final rites and funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family soon.
