MK Stalin Slams CM Vijay’s ‘Filmy’ Assembly Speech, Says Tamil Nadu House Is Not a Cinema Set

A fresh political war of words has erupted in Tamil Nadu after DMK leader MK Stalin criticised Chief Minister Vijay for what he described as a “filmy” performance in the Legislative Assembly.

The controversy began after Vijay, leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), delivered a speech that attracted widespread attention for its dramatic style and a viral hand gesture that many linked to an earlier gesture made by Stalin.

Stalin Questions Vijay’s Style in the Assembly

Taking a direct swipe at the Chief Minister, Stalin said the Assembly should not be treated like a movie set. He alleged that the Speaker allowed Vijay’s speech to be presented in a manner resembling a cinematic performance rather than a serious legislative debate.

According to Stalin, the Assembly is a platform for discussing public issues and government policies, not for delivering dramatic punchlines.

He further claimed that Vijay’s speech focused more on political attacks and theatrical moments than on addressing key concerns facing the people of Tamil Nadu.

Focus Should Be on Governance, Says Stalin

Stalin argued that several important issues remained unanswered during the Chief Minister’s address.

He pointed to concerns related to power supply, farmers’ welfare, law and order, and the implementation of election promises. According to the DMK leader, citizens expect detailed responses on governance and development rather than political drama.

The criticism comes amid growing political rivalry between the ruling TVK and the opposition DMK.

Viral Gesture Sparks Political Debate

One of the most talked-about moments from Vijay’s speech was a dramatic hand gesture made at the end of his address.

Before making the gesture, Vijay reportedly sought permission from the Speaker. He then performed the move as TVK legislators applauded from their seats.

The moment quickly went viral on social media, with supporters praising Vijay’s confidence and critics accusing him of bringing film-style theatrics into legislative proceedings.

Political observers noted that the gesture appeared to reference an earlier viral moment involving Stalin, adding another layer to the ongoing rivalry between the two leaders.

Stalin Urges Vijay to Separate Cinema and Politics

In his remarks, Stalin said Vijay should move beyond his image as a film star and fully embrace the responsibilities of leading the state.

He stressed that the office of the Chief Minister requires seriousness, accountability and a focus on public welfare.

“The people of Tamil Nadu expect governance, not performances,” Stalin said while urging Vijay to conduct himself in a manner befitting the state’s highest elected office.

Political Tensions Continue to Rise

The exchange highlights the increasingly intense political contest between TVK and DMK. As both parties prepare for future political battles, such public confrontations are likely to remain a major feature of Tamil Nadu politics.

With Vijay continuing to draw massive public attention and Stalin positioning himself as a key opposition voice, the debate over style versus substance in governance is expected to remain in the spotlight.
