Paralakhemundi: A minor girl was run over by a speeding ambulance at Katalakaitha village a few kilometres away from the district headquarters of Gajapati on Sunday.
The deceased minor girl was identified as S Lakshmi (10), of the same village.
According to reports, an ambulance that was moving on the Mohana-Paralakhemundi road mowed down the little girl, who was walking by the road. Lakshmi sustained critical head injuries in the accident and died on the spot.
Sources said that the ambulance was transporting vegetable bags instead of patients. Besides, the villagers have claimed that the driver was rash driving, as a result, the little girl lost her life.
The local villagers have staged a road blockade demanding compensation for Lakshmi’s family and strict action against the ambulance driver. Besides, the movement of vehicles was also affected due to the protest.
Reportedly, the police have recovered the minor’s body for post-mortem and seized the emergency vehicle.
