A deadly terror attack in the scenic town of Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, has left 26 people dead and dozens injured, prompting heightened security measures and public outrage.
Investigations have identified Saifullah Khalid, a high-ranking commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), as the orchestrator of this heinous assault.
The Resistance Front (TRF), an LeT proxy group, claimed responsibility for the attack, which primarily targeted tourists and civilians. Saifullah Khalid, also known as Saifullah Kasuri, reportedly planned the attack over a span of two months, coordinating with Pakistani Army camps to execute the operation. Khalid, a close associate of LeT chief Hafiz Saeed, is seen as a significant figure behind TRF and the People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF), both alleged to act as LeT’s proxies.
In the wake of the incident, streets in Pahalgam—a popular tourist destination—are eerily deserted. This tragic event marks one of the deadliest attacks in the region since the revocation of Article 370 in 2019. The tragedy has sparked outrage, leading to a Jammu bandh, as organisations demand accountability and justice.
Security forces have intensified search operations, but the attack has reignited concerns over cross-border terrorism and the alleged backing of these acts by state elements in Pakistan. The situation remains tense, with public and political leaders condemning the violence and calling for swift justice.
