A massive fire broke out at an electric vehicle showroom in Surat’s Adajan area on Thursday morning, damaging three nearby shops and several vehicles.
The blaze erupted around 9:30 AM, prompting a swift response from the city’s fire department.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer S.G. Dhobi said teams from five to six fire stations rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call. Firefighters broke the shutters of the affected shops to control the flames and prevent the fire from spreading further.
The blaze started inside the EV showroom, where batteries and spare parts intensified the flames. The fire quickly spread to adjacent establishments, including a garage, a medicine store, an ice cream shop, and a fast‑food outlet. Thick smoke engulfed the area, causing panic among residents and shopkeepers.
Dhobi confirmed that no injuries occurred during the incident. Firefighters managed to bring the situation under control after nearly two hours of continuous operations. Several electric vehicles were completely gutted in the fire.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze. Officials said the damage assessment is underway, and safety checks will follow to prevent similar incidents.
