Kandhamal (Phulbani): The Kandhamal District Administration has collected a total of Rs 25,000 as fines after raiding a marriage function that was openly violating COVID norms. The incident has been reported from Kotagarh block under Srirampur panchayat.
According to reports, without prior approval from the local authorities, a marriage function was being held in the village where the organisers allowed more than the capped number of participants and arranging procession (barat) including a community feast. Scores of people were seen attending the marriage ceremony.
On getting information, Kotagarh Tahsildar Laxmidhar Samal along with a police team led by IIC Dheeraj Kumar Lenka conducted a raid on the venue.
After observing that the COVID precautionary norms were being flouted by the organisers, the Tehsildar collected a fine of Rs 10,000 each from a bus owner & the bride’s father and Rs 5,000 from the groom’s father.
