Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized hydroponic marijuana valued at more than Rs 6 crore at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar.
The contraband was recovered from two passengers arriving on flight 6E-1066 from Bangkok.
Authorities revealed that the accused carried nearly 6 kilograms of hydroponic weed concealed in their luggage. Both individuals, reportedly natives of Tamil Nadu, were detained and interrogated by DRI officers.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the marijuana was smuggled into the city from Bangkok. Officials are now probing the wider network involved in the trafficking and attempting to identify the intended recipients of the consignment.
The seizure marks one of the largest drug busts at Bhubaneswar Airport in recent months. Security agencies have intensified monitoring of international arrivals to curb smuggling activities.
The DRI continues its investigation to dismantle the supply chain and prevent further attempts to push narcotics into Odisha.
