Security forces uncovered a major Maoist hideout near Kanagun village in Boudh district on Saturday.

The coordinated operation, led by the Superintendent of Police and involving the Special Operations Group (SOG), District Voluntary Force (DVF), and a bomb disposal squad, resulted in the seizure of explosives, Maoist uniforms, and propaganda materials.

Among the items confiscated were 36 detonators, 33 gelatin sticks, and Naxal uniforms. Authorities termed the raid a substantial achievement in the ongoing efforts to dismantle Maoist influence in the region.

This operation follows a series of successful missions aimed at eradicating Maoist strongholds in the state. Earlier missions targeted encampments in Saranda Forest near the Odisha-Jharkhand border and Chintalnar Forest on the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border, uncovering weapons, bunkers, medical equipment, and Maoist literature. The successes reflect the sustained efforts of Odisha’s security forces to curb Maoist operations and reclaim affected regions.

State officials highlighted the reduction in Maoist-affected districts from 21 in earlier years to only 7 in 2025, showcasing the effectiveness of these counter-insurgency initiatives.
