Malkangiri: A Maoist was gunned down by a joint team of Special Operations Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) during an encounter in a forest near Nunkhari at Madakapada under Mudulipada police limits in the district last night.
Following reliable inputs about Maoists’ presence and their camp in Nunkhari forest, the security forces launched a combing operation.
While the security forces were conducting a search in the forest, the red rebels opened fire on them. In retaliation, the security forces gunned down one Maoist after hours of gun battle.
Unable to face the heavy firing by the SOG & DVF Jawans, the red rebels left their post and escaped into the forest.
Reportedly, the security personnel have recovered the body of the slain extremist near the camp. Besides, combing operation has been intensified in the area.
