The Additional District and Sessions Judge at Redhakhol sentenced Arjun Pradhan of Jamujori village under Naktideul police station in Sambalpur district to life imprisonment for killing his younger brother Ashok Kumar Pradhan in 2021.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000. In case of default, the convict will undergo an additional one year of rigorous imprisonment.
According to case records, Arjun attacked Ashok with a tangia (axe) following a dispute rooted in previous enmity. Ashok’s wife lodged a complaint at Naktideul police station. Then, Officer Dharmendra Bhoi investigated the matter, arrested Arjun, and filed charges. Later, officer Bidu Bhushan Mishra submitted the final charge sheet to the court.
Judge Parthasarathi Pattnaik examined 17 witnesses and 16 documents before delivering the verdict in ST Case No. 25/2021. The prosecution was represented by government lawyers Sanyukta Kachhap and Tushar Kanta Kar.
