Man Killed in Angul Over Gambling Dispute

A man named Ajad Husein succumbed to injuries inflicted in a brutal attack at Nakhara Sahi in Angul on Sunday afternoon over a suspected gambling dispute.

According to sources, the accused, Mantu Samantaray, armed with a sharp weapon (bhujali), attacked Ajad near his residence following a heated argument. Neighbours, alerted by Ajad’s cries, rushed him to a hospital where he was declared dead.

Reports indicate that the dispute stemmed from a gambling session days earlier, during which Mantu lost Rs 2,000. This loss allegedly left Mantu aggrieved, as Ajad and his friends, who won, discontinued playing and left. The lingering resentment led to the tragic attack.

Local police arrested Mantu and are conducting an investigation. Senior officers visited the scene, and security has been heightened to manage tensions in the area.

This incident underscores growing concerns about illegal gambling and substance abuse among the youth in Angul. The community is urging authorities to address these issues to ensure public safety.
