Bhubaneswar: Police have arrested a person for allegedly throwing acid on his wife in the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. The arrestee has been identified as Papuni Rout (22) of the Chanarpada police limits area in Puri district.
According to available information, Papuni was in a relationship with the girl in the year 2019 and they got married the same year before Notary, Puri. However, Papuni refused to take her to his house.
Later on August 11, 2021, Papuni called the victim to Dhauli Hill for a discussion about their marriage. Thereafter, the victim came along with her friend and they all visited the Dhauli park. During the discussion, Papuni denied taking her to his house as she belongs to a lower caste. Soon an argument ensued between them and, in a fit of rage, Papuni threw some acid-like liquid substances to her face as a result the latter sustained burn injuries.
Following this, the victim lodged a complaint at the Dhauli police station. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case (121 /21) under sections 326(A)/379 IPC turned to Sec 326(A)/379 IPC/ Sec 3(1)(r)/3(2)(v)(VA) SC &ST (POA) Act 1989.
After pertinent efforts, police today arrested the accused from Gujarat. The accused will be forwarded to the Court today, the police said.
