A Maha Snan (ritual cleansing bath) was performed at the Puri Srimandir today after an individual reportedly vomited near the Bhitara Katha, one of the inner sanctums of the temple.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) confirmed the incident and stated that the cleansing was done in accordance with temple traditions and rituals.
Following the Abakasha rituals — the daily purification of the deities — the Maha Snan was carried out to uphold the sanctity of the temple. As a result, darshan for the general public was temporarily suspended during the ritual proceedings.
In a related advisory, the SJTA recently urged devotees to consume Mahaprasad while sitting on the floor, in keeping with the age-old customs, and not on dining tables.
