A low-pressure system is expected to trigger widespread rainfall across Odisha over the next two days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy showers in several parts of the state.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Bhubaneswar, the wet spell is likely to continue until July 15, prompting weather alerts for multiple districts.
Yellow alert for several districts
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and rainfall in northern and coastal Odisha.
The districts under yellow alert include:
- Cuttack
- Khordha
- Kendrapada
- Bhadrak
- Jagatsinghpur
- Keonjhar
- Mayurbhanj
- Gajapati
- Ganjam
- Nayagarh
- Balasore
- Sundargarh
Residents in these areas have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms and intense rainfall.
Orange alert for Kandhamal
For Wednesday, the weather department has extended a statewide yellow warning for rainfall. However, Kandhamal district has been placed under an orange alert, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places.
The IMD has advised people in vulnerable areas to remain cautious as heavy showers may lead to waterlogging, reduced visibility, and disruptions to normal activities.
