Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next four days, owing to a well-defined low-pressure area over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal.
As of 19th July, this low-pressure area, initially over the central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal, is now situated off the Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coasts. It is forecasted to intensify into a depression in the same region within the next 12 hours and is predicted to move northwestwards, crossing the Odisha coast in the following 24 hours, according to the IMD.
Districts such as Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Boudh, and Puri have received orange alerts for significant rainfall. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is specifically anticipated in Kalahandi and Nabarangpur.
Additionally, nine other districts are under yellow warnings. Squally weather conditions with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are expected over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, as well as along and off the coasts of North Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal for the next 48 hours.
Fishermen are advised against venturing into these maritime areas along and off the Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal coasts for the next two days.
For the upcoming day, the weather department has issued orange alerts for three districts and yellow alerts for at least 13 districts.
