A shocking crime has shaken Rayagada district after a seven-year-old boy was kidnapped and brutally murdered in the Bissam Cuttack block’s Chatikana area.

The victim, identified as Rishi Gantayat, was abducted from Puruna Station Sahi late Friday.

According to reports, kidnappers sent a message to Rishi’s uncle demanding Rs 4 lakh ransom and warned of dire consequences if police were informed. Hours later, the child’s body was found behind his old house. His throat had been slit before being stuffed into a sack and dumped.

Police rushed to the spot after receiving information and seized the body. Senior officials, including SP Swati S Kumar, ASP Amulya Dhar, SDPO Santosini Oram, and IIC Samarpita Swain, reached the scene to begin the investigation.

Authorities suspect involvement of family members and have detained them for interrogation. However, no arrests have been made yet. The motive behind the crime remains unclear.
