Operation Cyber Kavach Odisha: 328 Arrested, 31,498 Mule Accounts Checked

Odisha Police intensified its fight against cybercrime through the special drive Operation Cyber Kavach.


Acting under the directions of DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, district SPs and DCPs supervised cyber crime units across the state to identify mule (benami) bank accounts used in fraud and take strict legal action.

So far, police have checked 31,498 mule accounts statewide. Investigations led to 1,090 cyber fraud cases, 34 ATM withdrawal cases, 35 cheque withdrawal cases, and 23 fake SIM/PoS-related cases. A total of 328 accused have been arrested. Notices have been issued to 6,532 suspected account holders and associates linked to 183 FIRs.

District police units reported significant progress. Puri police checked one benami account, registered a case, and arrested three accused. Rourkela police examined 22 accounts, registered four cases, and issued notices to three individuals. Bhubaneswar police checked 12 accounts, registered one case, arrested one accused, and issued notices to four. Cuttack police registered one cheque withdrawal case.

Other districts also contributed: Nayagarh police checked 82 accounts and issued 30 notices; Balangir, Subarnapur, Balasore, and Bhadrak police examined multiple accounts; Mayurbhanj police checked 20 accounts and issued 18 notices; Berhampur police checked 80 accounts and issued 80 notices; Boudh police checked seven accounts and issued seven notices. Ganjam, Kalahandi, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nuapada police also reported checks and notices.

DGP Khurania stated that Odisha Police remains committed to securing digital transactions and will intensify the campaign further to build a cybercrime-free Odisha.
