A heartbreaking incident occurred in the Kaptipada police station area of Mayurbhanj district, where two minor girls drowned in a pond while bathing.

The victims, identified as seven-year-old Subhasandhya Nayak and eight-year-old Rajalaxmi Sankhual, were classmates at Dandaghat Dehuri Sahi School.

On Friday, after returning from school, the two friends went to bathe in a pond near their village, Nachhipur in Barakhaladi. Family members had advised them to use the hand pump for bathing, but the girls chose the pond instead. Moments later, relatives noticed both children struggling in the water.

Family members rushed into the pond and pulled them out, immediately taking them to Kaptipada hospital. Doctors declared both girls dead upon arrival.

The tragic drowning has cast a pall of grief over the local community. Villagers expressed shock at the sudden loss of two young lives, describing the incident as deeply painful.

Police registered the case and confirmed that the bodies were handed over to the families after the necessary procedures.
