Commissionerate Police arrested Anil Das from Kendrapara district for allegedly duping investors of more than Rs 10 crore through a fake software company in Bhubaneswar.
Police said Anil opened a bogus office under the banner of a software firm in Pahal and lured businessmen to invest between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 25 lakh each, promising high returns through share sales. He projected himself as the owner of a reputed company and convinced investors to part with large sums of money.
When victims demanded refunds, Anil allegedly tried to escape to Dubai. Acting on complaints, Saheed Nagar police intercepted him at Bhubaneswar airport and took him into custody. He was later produced in court and sent to jail.
Investigators revealed that Anil had set up his fake company inside the Utkal Builders building in Pahal. He targeted local businessmen, collected crores in investments, and siphoned off funds. Once investors realised the fraud, they confronted him, but he refused to return the money, citing market fluctuations.
Police confirmed that multiple complaints had been filed against Anil, and evidence proved his involvement in cyber fraud.
