Filmmaker Karan Johar has firmly dismissed ongoing rumours about a sequel to his iconic film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (K3G), stating that he has no plans to revisit the beloved story.

Speaking in a recent interview, Johar clarified that neither K3G 2 nor a revival of his ambitious period drama Takht is currently in development.

‘I Would Never Make K3G 2’

Addressing the speculation, Johar emphasised that while every film has imperfections, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham holds unmatched emotional value.

He said he would never create a sequel because the film’s nostalgia is deeply rooted in audiences across generations. According to him, revisiting such a legacy project could risk disappointing viewers and undermining its emotional impact.

A Timeless Bollywood Classic

Released in 2001, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham remains one of Hindi cinema’s most celebrated family dramas. The film features a legendary cast including Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Amitabh Bachchan, and Hrithik Roshan.

Its music, emotional storytelling, and family-centric narrative continue to resonate strongly with audiences even decades after release.

Update on Takht

Johar also addressed questions around Takht, confirming that the project is currently on hold. However, he reaffirmed his commitment to eventually bringing it to the big screen.

He described Takht as one of the strongest scripts of his career and credited writer Sumit Roy for its development.

The film, announced in 2021, features a star-studded cast including Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Anil Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor, and Bhumi Pednekar. The project faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and remains unreleased.

Preserving Nostalgia Over Sequels

Johar’s statement underlines a growing perspective in Bollywood—prioritising legacy over unnecessary sequels. By choosing not to revisit K3G, he aims to preserve the film’s emotional value and cultural significance.

For fans, the message is clear: Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham will remain untouched, continuing to live on through its nostalgia and timeless appeal.
