A busy stretch of Kalinga Studio Square turned chaotic after a car driven at high speed by a young woman slammed into a motorcycle from behind, leaving both riders seriously injured on the road.
According to eyewitnesses, the car was approaching the junction at speed when the driver suddenly lost control and struck the bike ahead. The impact was forceful enough to throw the motorcycle several metres forward. Both young men on the bike were flung onto the road and sustained serious injuries.
People nearby rushed to the scene and detained the woman driver before she could leave. Those present said she appeared heavily intoxicated and was unable to control the vehicle. Police reached the spot, took her into custody, and began a detailed investigation into the circumstances of the crash, including her condition at the time of driving.
The two injured riders were shifted for medical treatment. Their condition was described as serious. Traffic at the usually congested Kalinga Studio Square was disrupted while the vehicles were cleared and statements were recorded.
Authorities have not yet released the names of those involved. Further updates are expected once medical reports and the police inquiry are complete. The incident has again drawn attention to speeding and drink-driving risks on Bhubaneswar’s busy arterial roads.
