Junagarh police busted a major bike theft racket in Kalahandi district, arresting six persons and recovering 44 stolen motorcycles during an extensive operation in the Dharamgarh subdivision.
Kalahandi Superintendent of Police Nagaraj Devarakonda said six persons carried out the thefts, while three others acted as receivers. Police began investigating after a complaint was filed on May 13 regarding a stolen bike.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to stealing motorcycles from various locations in Dharamgarh. Acting on their confession, police recovered 44 stolen vehicles from different spots. SP Nagaraj confirmed that the operation dismantled a well-organised network targeting rural areas.
Police teams continue to trace other suspects and verify ownership of the recovered motorcycles. The Kalahandi bike theft racket case has exposed the growing trend of vehicle thefts in western Odisha and the need for stronger surveillance.
Authorities assured that strict action will follow against all involved and urged residents to report suspicious activities promptly.
