The investigation into the Jyoti Malhotra spy case has intensified, with police closely examining digital footprints and possible links to espionage activities. The probe has now entered its fourth consecutive day of questioning Odia YouTuber Priyanka Senapati from Puri, as authorities scrutinise her online content, financial transactions, call records, and travel history.
According to Puri Superintendent of Police Vinit Agrawal, Jyoti Malhotra and her mother checked into Sri Jagannath Ballav Bhakta Nivas on September 21 last year before departing by train on September 22.
During their visit, Jyoti collaborated with Priyanka, visiting various tourist spots and filming vlog content, which was later uploaded online.
A Suspicious Stay at Jagannath Ballabh Bhakta Niwas
Authorities have also questioned the manager of Bhakta Nivas, who confirmed that Jyoti did not receive any visitors during her stay.
According to Puri Police, Jyoti Malhotra, accompanied by her elderly mother, Chander Kanta, checked into Jagannath Ballabh Bhakta Niwas, a guesthouse near Puri’s Market Square, on September 21, 2024. The duo stayed for just one night, checking out on the evening of September 22, despite having booked the room until September 23.
Dilip Dey, the manager of the guesthouse, confirmed that Jyoti introduced Chander Kanta as her mother and that no other visitors came to their room during their stay. “Their behaviour did not raise any suspicion at the time,” Dey noted, adding that Jyoti’s activities appeared typical of a tourist.
However, the early departure has raised eyebrows. Why did Jyoti leave a day earlier than planned? What was the purpose of her visit to Puri, a city far from her usual haunts? These questions have fueled speculation and intensified the police investigation.
Digital Scrutiny and Intelligence Alerts
Investigators are mapping locations visited by Jyoti and Priyanka, reviewing uploaded content, and verifying financial dealings to identify any potential espionage links. Law enforcement officials have confirmed that they are working closely with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Hisar Police, and the State Intelligence Department to ensure a thorough examination of the case.
“We are keeping intelligence agencies informed and leaving no stone unturned in this investigation,” stated SP Vinit Agrawal. He declined to speculate on Jyoti and Priyanka’s connection, noting that premature conclusions could jeopardise the investigation.

Despite extended questioning, Priyanka and her family have fully cooperated with investigators. The police aim to determine whether the vlogs and digital content uploaded by the two women had any ulterior motives or concealed information relevant to national security.

The deletion of several videos from Priyanka’s social media accounts has added another layer of intrigue. Investigators are working to recover these files and analyse their content for clues. Additionally, financial transactions related to Priyanka’s travels are under scrutiny to identify potential funding sources. “We are examining bank accounts and social media activity to piece together the puzzle,” Agrawal confirmed.
